How much time is too much?
This is a question I often ask myself when, whilst doing homework, I find myself checking Facebook for the umpteenth time. If you, like me, are unsure of whether or not you are spending too much time on Facebook, then you will find the following helpful:
Five Clues You Are Addicted to Facebook:
1.) You lose sleep over Facebook
2.) You spend more than an hour a day on Facebook
3.) You become obsessed with old loves
4.) You ignore work in favor of Facebook
5.) The thought of getting off Facebook leaves you in a cold sweat
The list above was created by psychologist Lipari, because, believe it or not, psychologists get a significant number of patients coming in for social networking addictions. There are many adults that are starting to neglect the duties of this world in favor of ease and simplicity of the social networking world. I think that at the point where someone can’t function in the real world anymore is the point where a social network becomes a social dysfunction.
Since, I found many items on the list to be a bit extreme for my case, I think a better indicator would be trying to see how long I can go without Facebook. Sometime in the future I’ll try to go a week or so without it, but maybe not just yet…

I have a friend who gave up Facebook for lent. It was much harder than it seemed. She was out of the loop on a ton of stuff and people had to fill her in (sometimes she learned of things too late).
I find it amazing that we've become so dependent on these social networking sites.
Agreed. It's absolutely crazy how social networking tools are actually affecting our day to day lives. I mentioned in my final paper how social networking tools may even be considered a necessary component of a 'proper' social life, as it contributed to our definition of friendship.
I agree. It is crazy how we depend on social networking so much these days. One of my friends is so addicted to facebook that she would rather get their food to-go from the dining hall and sit on facebook in her dorm rather than eat at the diner and chat with friends.
The obsession with Facebook seems to be out of control. I think that more social networks are only to come, though, because it's such a profitable business. This will only mean more wasted time and energy that could otherwise be spent doing productive things!!
Haha thats funny, when I had Facebook I could seriously turn a few minutes into hours I'm sure, looking as pictures, then linking to another friend and seeing another person you may know and then another. It says, " Com hither!" and it strings you along from one profile or photo album to the next!
